Blank grey screen experienced within report wizard (Internet Explorer 11)

Modified on Wed, 12 Sep, 2018 at 6:12 PM

A small number of ATEB suitability users have reported that they are sometimes directed to a blank grey screen (with no loading animation) whilst working within the report wizard (usually after clicking on another page or the next page button).

Generally the cause of this issue is that the user has lost connection to the internet, so in all cases we would ask that you first check your connection if you experience this issue.

However, after some investigation we have discovered that this issue can also affect users that are using the Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 web browser without the loss of the internet; and is a result of an untreated defect within the web browser itself. Unfortunately the team at Microsoft are not looking to resolve this defect in the near future and the recommended advice by the Microsoft team is to use the Microsoft Edge browser instead (available on Windows 10+), as the fix required has been applied to this version.  The issue relates to how IE11 handles cookie based sessions across multiple tabs.

To gain the best experience possible whilst using ATEB suitability we would recommend using either Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.  Due to the above issue, we will be removing support for IE11 in the near future.

A workaround for this issue has been suggested on a Microsoft Developer forum, which requires the modification of your operating system's registry.  We would not recommend using the workaround without first seeking advice from your IT support contact.  Whilst the workaround does appear to provide a solution, we have experienced PC performance problems whilst browsing in IE11 once it is activated.

All details on this defect (and the workaround) can be found from Microsoft by visiting the following link https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/platform/issues/8748123/*

We are sorry for any inconvenience this issue may cause.
